Delhi has been the strangest part of my life. Having a huge amount of time for myself, I figured out that my sketchbooks, my thoughts, photographs I shoot, people I meet and a lot of my observations of daily life needed a better platform for documentation. Also, I’m slowly being branded as a photographer, with people at the back of my life, asking me to shoot at their weddings since the past one year. Candid wedding photography itseems.

The series above, is from inside the Jama Masjid compound in Old Delhi and places around Chandni Chowk which felt exactly like the Charminar area of Hyderabad – crowded, colourful and the air rich with the smell of smoked chicken kebabs. The Masjid is like an oasis in this chaotic part of the city – a cool water pond in the middle to wash your feet, a huge open space for people of all religions to pray/play/meditate or just sit and observe people doing those things.

Tip: One is supposed to remove their footwear outside and carry it with their hands (soles facing each other), once inside the mosque. When you intend to sit and leave the footwear on the ground, make sure the soles face either upwards or sideways, or be ready for a stern warning from the locals.

More on why ‘vinuravema’, later.
